Class Descriptions

Class Descriptions: Fall 2010

7th Grade Confirmation (Students and Parents) ... A study of key Bible stories to prepare 7th graders for understanding God's truth and the life of discipleship as they become Confirmed members. REQUIRED for students who do not attend St. Peter Day School. Enrollment forms and schedule available on Church Office Pillar Rack and Web site.

8th Grade Confirmation (Students and Parents) Also available on Monday evenings (Rm 6). Our vision for a meaningful Confirmation ministry is for all 8th grade families (Day School and Public school) to unite in a journey on Sunday mornings or Monday evenings for a high-quality, high-expectation learning event to prepare our children and their parents for active service in the congregation and our communities. This commitment includes both Confirmands and their parents in two "seasons'" of learning and service focusing on Luther's Small Catechism.
Senior High Youth...for Youth and Parents... Meets at His Rock, 9:30 am.
Growing Character...Want to learn more about character in your family? This class is open to parents, grandparents, and children (grades 1-6) who have a passion to live with character in their relationships. The format is different: parents and children attend together! (Grandmas and grandpas can join the fun too). Each week we'll look at key character words (gratefulness, generosity, truthfulness, and many more) and draw on Bible passages and stories to illustrate the concept. We'll plan on activities and discussions to involve our children in learning these character truths.
How We Got the Bible and Explaining All The Scary Stuff in Revelation... Learn about the production, collection, transmission, and preservation of these marvelous works in How We Got The Bible, featuring Dr. Paul L. Maier. Listen as Dr. Maier shares his expertise and enthusiasm on the preservation and transmission of God's Word through the centuries. §Nobody said demons, plagues, and an appointment with Armageddon would be fun, but it doesn't have to be feared - at least not for the Christian. Expalining All The Scary Stuff in Revelation, gives both insight and encouragement to those who follow "the bright Morning Star."
The Truth Project.. The Truth Project is a DVD-based curriculum comprised of 12 video lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett, President of the Focus on the Family Institute. This study is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life. The session outlines, guides, key  terms, and other key resources are available on our Web site (splcs.com).

Those who have completed the New Member Class, those who have recently transferred to our church family, and even long-time members are invited to this class focused on developing and nurturing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. While the New Member class focuses on important beliefs of the church, Discovery focuses more on those practices that nurture faith, including personal prayer, Bible Reading, and using your gifts and talents. The class is led by a recent new member, and uses a book and DVD series as a discussion starter.
Biblical Stewardship... One of the most comprehensive study courses of its kind, sessions unlock the Biblical truths to a powerful Christian mindset. The material is immersed in Scripture, Biblical principles and practical application concerning money and possessions. Starts promptly each week at 9:25 and concludes by 10:45! Workbooks provided.
