Class Descriptions

Class Descriptions: Winter 2010

7th Grade Confirmation (Students and Parents) ... A study of key Bible stories to prepare 7th graders for understanding God's truth and the life of discipleship as they become Confirmed members. REQUIRED for students who do not attend ST. Peter Day School. Enrollment forms and schedule available on Church Office Pillar Rack and Web site.

8th Grade Confirmation (Students and Parents) Also available on Monday evenings (Rm 6). Our vision for a meaningful Confirmation ministry is for all 8th grade families (Day School and Public school) to unite in a journey on Sunday mornings or Monday evenings for a high-quality, high-expectation learning event to prepare our children and their parents for active service in the congregation and our communities. This commitment includes both Confirmands and their parents in two "seasons'" of learning and service focusing on Luther's Small Catechism.
Senior High Youth... "Roll Out!" It is one of the main purposed of our focus on Transformation. Sunday mornings we are going to continue to grow in our understanding of what scripture has to say then learn relevant, practical ways to take this foundation and make a powerful difference in the world around us.
Love Languages...People express and receive love in different ways. If you express love in a way your spouse or family members do not understand, they may not realize you've shown love at all... In this DVD series and book, Dr. Gary Chapman identifies the five languages of love -- quality time, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, and physical touch- and helps individuals and couples to learn to know and speak the languages of "love." Growing Character... Want to learn more about character in your family? This class is open to parents, grandparents, and children (grades 1-6) who have a passion to live with character int heir relationships. The format is different: parents and children attend together! (Grandmas and grandpas can join the fun too). Each week we'll look at key character words (gratefulness, generosity, truthfulness, and many more) and draw on Bible passages and stories to illustrate the concept. We'll plan on activities and discussions to involve our children in learning these character truths.
Listen! God is Speaking... Prepare yourself for a deeper understanding of our worship Scripture readings! Each Sunday we'll explore the next week's readings, focusing on the Gospel (mostly from Luke), but delving into the rich connections between the Old Testament, the Epistle, and the story of Jesus' ministry. All you need is your Bible!
Gospel of John... "These are written that you may believe that Jesus i the Christ, the Son of God..." Welcome to an in-depth study of the Fourth Gospel! Through careful study of Jesus' words and actions, and drawing on the word-for-word DVD film of John's Gospel, you'll come to appreciate who the Lord is and what He has done. Please join us!
Discover... The Discover class serves as the natural next step for those new to membership and discipleship at  St. Peter. Those who have completed the New Member Class, those who have recently transferred to our church family, and even long-time members are invited to this class focused on developing and nurturing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. While the New Member class focuses on important beliefs of the church, Discovery focuses more on those practices that nurture faith, including personal prayer, Bible Reading, and using your gifts and talents. The class is led by a recent new member, and uses a book and DVD series as a discussion starter.
