St. Peter Youth Ministry
What’s the
importance of a good foundation? The answer is EVERYTHING. Without a proper
foundation, everything that is placed upon it becomes compromised. That is one of
the reasons why we are so blessed to have the sure and steady love and promises
of our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ, as our foundation. He is the hope, trust, and
salvation that we build upon knowing that He never wavers or changes.
With that secure foundation
as our base, St. Peter Lutheran Church has begun to build and continues to
build upon this foundation through the guidance of our Lord and Savior. Through
His direction, we strive to live out the Great Commission by being salt
and light in a very dark and tasteless world. We desire for our homes,
our community, and the world at large to know the good news of salvation. Or,
as our vision for St. Peter Lutheran Church so beautifully says, we want to be
a congregation that is “Sharing the heart of the Savior in the heart
of Macomb.”
So, how does that
translate into our student ministry? Very easily! Building upon our
strong foundation and understanding the overall vision of St. Peter, God has
placed upon my heart four areas that I consider the mission for our students
and our families.
The Heart Of A Servant
(John 13:12-17, 1 Peter 4:7-11)
We desire to be a
ministry that is passionate about living out our faith through our service to
others.
A Heart For The Lost
(Matthew 28:18-20, Romans 10:14-15)
We desire to be a
ministry that is passionate about reaching out to those who are spiritually
lost; the unbelievers, those who have walked away, and those who are seriously
struggling in their faith life.
A Heart For The Savior
(2 Timothy 3:16)
We desire to be a
ministry that is passionate about providing
opportunities for
people to grow spiritually.
A Heart For God’s
Family (Ephesians 2:19-22)
We desire to be a
ministry that is passionate about providing a
place of refuge, encouragement,
and strengthening for our
students and their
families.
Adult Involvement
It is critical
for a student ministry to have a vision, direction, and purpose that is instep
with the will and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Along with these
foundational elements there has to be the faithful involvement of God’s
people for the ministry to fully flourish. In today’s church, there
is a vital need for adults to use their God given gifts and talents to impact
the multitude of young people that are all around us.
But, for too long
and too often, adult involvement has happened and hasn’t happened because
of all the wrong reasons.
“I’m too old.”
“What if they make me teach?”
“I’ll feel guilty if I don’t help.”
“Once I’m in, they’ll never let me out.”
“My kids don’t want me there.”
And the list goes
on, but it misses the core element of adult involvement. Our thought
process should be, “Is God calling me?” And, if God is
calling me, will I be faithful to that calling and get involved. It may
be a giant challenge and/or change for people, but let me guarantee you that it
will impact your life in a powerful way.
If God is calling
you to be involved with our students, get involved! Here’s how:
(1)
Pray about it and make
sure this is really where God wants you.
(2)
Call Bo
(586-677-1283). He will talk with you about where you feel God directing
you and how you can best get involved. He would love to hear about the
passion within your heart and would love to pray with you about your decision.
(3)
Get ready to enter a
wonderful and challenging new world.
Student Involvement
Something special is
beginning to happen within the St. Peter Student Ministry. God is moving hearts
and minds, as well as, opening new and exciting doors here in Macomb, Michigan.
He has placed a vision before us, opened up a world of new possibilities, and
has blessed our students with the gifts to impact the world around us. It is
happening right here, right now.
I want to invite all of our

Student Ministry. Whether you are new comer, an old timer, or someone right
there in between, there is no better time than now to get involved. We want you
come and be a part of the great things that God is doing!!!
